Chui Ling is one of Singapore’s few sports lawyers, who has advised national sports organisations, companies, and world-class athletes on their legal issues. She is also a published author of numerous papers in international journals and platforms on ongoing sports issues. Apart from that, she is Singapore’s national sprinter competing internationally against the likes of Olympic athletes. She has achieved all these accolades and she’s only 26 years young. How does she do it?
Prioritize your to-do list - The results will follow
Chui Ling attributes her success to discipline and prioritizing her schedule. She humbly shares the sacrifices she made; appointments with important people in her life, offers to be on committees and boards, and even opportunities to serve the nation.
She advises that re-ordering your priorities based on your goal is important to keep focused. She gives her own real-life example of priorities in the following order (from extreme importance to important):
1. Work / School
2. Training
3. Family
4. Friends
Know What You Want - Never settle for less
Chui Ling advocates strongly that you should be the one to determine and ascertain the kind of athlete you want to be and not succumb to societal expectations. When she first started out, she aimed to be an athlete for an “attractive” body. Nowadays, she’s shed society’s unwarranted expectations and focuses being an athlete who just enjoys running.
Share Your Passion with others - Giving is receiving
Her love for running is shared with the community. She is a board member of the first ever sports fund which aims to help children and youths from disadvantaged backgrounds reach their sporting dreams. Be involved where you can, running is not a lone sport!
She MOVES because she can. What’s stopping you?
